Make The First Impression Count

First impressions can be quite important, as when we meet someone for the first time, our initial impression of the new person, creates a mental image of his or her personality in our minds. This image is often long-lasting and not easily changed once created in our minds. A good or great first impression can create a positive role in the minds of the new people we meet. When we meet them again, we are often drawn back into this role. Sometimes it happens almost unconsciously and though you may not always be drawn back into that role, it sure is better to be positively perceived rather negatively.

To help ensure you make a good first impression every time, you should be conscious and aware of how you are coming across to another person. A good tip is to imagine that the person you have just met and are talking to is one of your best friends. You’ll probably adjust unconsciously and become more relaxed, as well as use open body-language to convey friendliness and a warm and welcoming demeanour. Smile. Don’t cross your arms or legs. Turn your body towards the people you’re are shaking hands with or talking to so that your body language is friendly and open.
