Becoming Disciplined in the Pursuit of your Goals

Discipline is one of the cornerstones to living a successful and fulfilling life and something we should all strive to master. Self-discipline more specifically, is a pattern of behaviour where you choose to do what you know you should do, rather than what you want to do. It’s the inner power that pushes you to get out of bed and exercise rather than sleeping-in. It is the assertion of willpower over more basic desires and is synonymous with self-control. Being disciplined gives you the strength to withstand hardships and difficulties, whether physical, emotional or mental. It allows the forgoing of immediate satisfaction, in order to gain something better or more rewarding, but which requires effort and time.

If you have struggled with maintaining discipline before, a good tip is to try starting small. Begin by keeping committed to completing regular little tasks, like taking out the garbage, answering an email, changing a light bulb, sweeping the front porch, or cleaning your bathroom. It’s a matter of gradually building up, and forming a positive habit out of what you need to get done. Don’t get discouraged or give-up when things get uncomfortable, but instead stay on course and keep focused on your end goal.
Training one’s self to become disciplined is indeed challenging, however it is one of the most important skills in life and can also be the most rewarding. In fact, many of Creator Academy’s instructional programs, integrate practical methods for forming good habits and developing self-discipline.  Begin today, and do all the little things you know you should do, but don’t feel like doing and have been putting off. Don’t let a lack of discipline keep you from achieving your dreams.
