Cultivating Healthy Relationships for More Happiness
It is no coincidence that today, both online dating
and the wedding industry are extremely successful businesses. Human beings seek
and crave close and intimate relationships. When we feel loved and connected we
feel “whole.” However, romantic relationships are not the only or even primary
source of relational happiness. Friendships and family relationships can be
just as important. Feeling loved and supported by a group or “tribe” is often
essential to how happy we actually are.
Of course on the opposite end of the
spectrum, relationships also have the power to make us extremely unhappy. Being
in the wrong relationship or being surrounded by people who don’t make us feel
good or take advantage of us can feel awful as well as drain us emotionally. At
this point, you may be asking, “How can I cultivate healthy relationships and
foster my own happiness?” Firstly, be sure to show empathy for the other
person, which is the foundation of any successful relationship. Only by showing
that you care is the feeling reciprocated. Make sure there is consistency and
follow-through in your actions and promises, as trust is another important
component of a healthy relationship. Be willing to compromise and fair in your
interactions, but be clear about setting boundaries in the relationship.
Because relationships are so powerful, it is
important to know how to cultivate fulfilling relationships. Unfortunately there are no classes in school
that teach us how to have healthy and happy relationships, so many of us just
do the best we can, learning as we go. Creator Academy can help you recognize and change the bad habits or
emotional dysfunctions that lead us into bad or abusive relationships. By
realigning your perceptions of what a healthy relationship entails, you can
greatly improve your happiness quotient in life.
