Challenge Yourself into Unknown Territory

Oftentimes, the unknown territory can be frightening, uncomfortable and give us the chills. What I mean by unknown territory is a new environment, new job, a project or a skill, for example. These unknown territories frighten us because it requires us to step outside of our comfort zone. But did you know that stepping outside of our comfort zone can bring a whole new meaning to us as a person? You become more dynamic, well rounded and valuable.

Let’s look at it this way. Sandra has been living in the same city for 23 years, kept to the same group of friends and never ventured outside of her own country. She was shy and believed in guarding her well protected comfort zone. Iris, on the other hand, loved travelling, making new sets of friends and trying different activities. Now to compare the two, who do you think has a better chance at grabbing more opportunities for success? The answer to that would be Iris for sure, no?

Being more open to trying new experiences can help us obtain more opportunities because we are able to connect with new individuals who in turn are able to share their experiences or hobbies – thus expanding our knowledge of the world beyond our comfort zone. Connecting with others and forming friendships can help us explore the unknown territory because as humans, we tend to trust the opinions of those we trust and the closest to us.
