Great Leaders Inspire
How do you explain when things don’t go as you plan?
Or, how do you explain when organisations or individuals are able to achieve
things that seem to defy all of the assumptions? For example, why is Apple so
innovative? Year after year they are more innovative than all their
competitors. In the industry, they have access to the same talent, agencies,
consultants and media. Yet, how is it that they seem to be able to offer
something different?
As it turns out, there is a pattern in all the
great leaders and organisations in the world – whether it is the world renowned
organisation such as Apple, or Barack Obama, they all think, act and
communicate the same way which is the complete opposite of everyone else.
The difference is, great leaders are driven by a
cause or a belief. People don’t buy into the idea of ‘what’ you do. Instead,
people buy into the idea of ‘why’ you do it. If you talk about what you
believe, you will attract those who believe what you believe. Apple believes in
making great products, believes in the simple and not complex, and believes in
innovation. Regardless of what job each employee works as in the organisation,
these beliefs and values are deeply embedded in each employee, so that
collaboratively, they are able to achieve their purpose. This is the secret to
the success of most organisations. The same principle can be applied to us as
individuals.
Everyone has a ‘why’. Why do you get up in the
morning? Why does your organisation exist? Your ‘why’ is the purpose, cause or
belief, that inspires you to do what you do. When you think, act, and
communicate starting with ‘why’, you can inspire others. Discover your ‘Why’ now
